“I Don’t Feel like an Adult”—Self-Perception of Delayed Transition to Adulthood in NEET Sample

Nowadays, there has been a debate about factors still crucial for the actual definition of adulthood and role played by uncertainty in employment, economic crisis, changing cultural contexts, globalization transition. This study aimed to provide deeper understanding self-perception transition among Italian NEET (young people not engaged education, or training). A group 53 NEETs were asked assess their from adolescence rating themselves on scale 1 (=adolescence) 7 (=adulthood). They also reflect reasons why they felt like adults not. The qualitative data coded using criteria attainment proposed Arnett’s markers scale. Analysis showed that category with highest frequency was transition, almost all this “in-between”. excerpts portrayed centrality work as factor an adult. research emphasizes importance mixed-methods understand where how feel adulthood, aspects are difficult grasp only quantitative data.
